We drove 9 hours to Tahoe (it really doesn't take that long, but with a baby it does), spent a week with my two brothers, nephews, my mom AND my dad (they aren't married anymore, I don't think too many exes can share a night at a cabin with each other, I feel lucky) and my cousin and his wife. I can't believe how well Zoe rolled with it. She let her cousins play with her and her uncles google over her and her aunt love on her and her grandma and grandpa squeeze and kiss on her. Our cabin is an old A frame with only a loft, Zoe did remarkably well napping and sleeping without the quiet confines of a room (thanks to really loud white noise). On our trek home, we rolled into SLO with Zoe sucking her fingers, clutching her blanky and listening to white noise in the rear speakers....yep, that's right John and I listened to white noise for the last 2 hours of the 9 hour drive home so our little sweetie could sleep.
I've come away from this week with a rejuvenated love for my family. We've been through a lot together and it's really reassuring to spend a week with them and be the recipient of their unconditional love. There is a long list of highlights here are a few:
- Zoe meeting her cousins Jay and Travis, Uncle Jonah and Aunt Tammi for the first time
- playing May I late into the night
- a day at Sand Harbor beach
- rafting the Truckee
- an adult night out of serious debauchery...including drinking, gambling and dancing to a Johnny Cash cover band
- working out with my brother Jonah, that was a first!
- playing Apples to Apples
- hitting softballs with a view of the lake and sunset colors
- a bear break in....while we were in the cabin!
- having my family together and having a 6 whole days to spend hanging out
In case you can't tell by looking at the 90 pictures (yes, I counted them, there is really 90), Zoe is the center of the universe. Hope she doesn't get a big head!
Don't know what the real name of this game is....but we call it donkey balls ;)

It'll become very apparent how rare we all get together by all the picture combinations. It rivaled the amount you take at a wedding.

I thought I set my camera up to give me 10 seconds on automatic timer....instead I ended up with 10 consecutive pictures....kind of funny to see that realization played out in 10 pictures. I only included 3, 90 pictures is enough.

Hurley loves Jonah
The plate of chicken right next to my daughter having a bath almost makes me have a panic attack....it just seems wrong to have a pile of meat next to a bathing baby.
Sacked out dogs who didn't bother to let out a peep when a bear tried to break it at 3am while we were all there sleeping.....seriously slacking on their dog duties!
We were gone only a week, but in that week it seems Zoe has catapulted herself much closer to crawling. She is certainly more and more mobile, spending time on all fours and pulling herself up on things. Time to get serious about baby proofing!
Rafting the Truckee will be in the next blog, gotta wait for Tammi to put them on Picassa....hint hint
