- I've officially been introduced to heartburn...but like I said I'm armed and ready, doesn't mean I like it though. In all reality it sucks! But luckily, it doesn't happen often.
- Zoe is going through a serious growth spurt (she's been putting on baby fat, up until recently...from what I read... she's had translucent, loose skin, kind of sounds gross, huh?). Evidence of this is the fact that I've lost my belly button literally overnight. It's no longer an inny, but not quite an outy, it's just sort of flat at the moment.
- Went to the chiropractor and boy am I happy I did. The loosening ligaments in my iliosacral joint (where the sacrum, aka tail bone, and iliac part of the pelvic bone meet) allows the pelvis to be pliable, so when baby comes these are movable joints, when normally they are pretty stationary. However, this looseness can also cause the sacrum to get twisted and stuck in uncompromising positions that could very possibly make birthing more difficult and more painful. My sacrum was cocked and jammed between the iliac part of the pelvis causing my pain...I plan on seeing the chiropractor regularly up until Zoe's birthday...makes sense to me! It's also nice to have a little relief from the pain....why didn't I do this earlier?!
- Putting on my shoes is starting to be really hard...I need John's help to untie my sneakers.
- We finally found a doula...this is essentially a labor coach who helps us through the process of birthing in a hospital. Having a holiday due date has presented a difficulty in availability...but we are really happy with the doula we chose. She is our advocate and makes sure that our birth plan is followed. I feel that this alleviates a lot of my anxiety about giving birth in a hospital. Giving birth at home is an option, but for some reason, can't really put my finger on it, this presents more anxieties for me. I think having an experienced person who can help us navigate through the choices (even though often in a hospital they are not presented as choices) that will inevitably come up in labor and someone to remind us and coach us along the way is very reassuring to both John and me.
- We start birthing classes in early October. We'll be taking a 10 week course that will cover a wide range of birthing techniques. It'll also cover the anatomy of giving birth and why your body does what it does in labor.
- Still swimming, although recently have been feeling like I sure am pushing a lot of water as I try to get across the pool. I'm finally feeling the drag of the expanding belly. Someone mentioned the other day at swimming that they were noticing for the first time my swimming technique change. He said my feet are kicking lower in the water and it's hard to miss my belly when he swims by....thanks? I also had a woman in the locker room ask if I was the pregnant swimmer. Hesitantly I said, "probably," unsure of where she was going with this. She was swimming in the lane next to me and told me she was so impressed with how well I was able to get through the water and that when she's pregnant, she wanted to look just like me. Awwww....so sweet, and I'm not sure she realizes how nice that is to hear when all you feel is just plain ol' big!
- I am increasingly emotional. I was just reading about labor, the part where the baby's head crowns and found myself in tears thinking about it (tears of happiness!). Commercials make me cry, tender moments on tv or in real life turn on the waterworks.
- Zoe has gotten the hiccups a few times now...it's not a big movement, but rhythmic and low.
- I have literally 5 outfits and I'm already tired of them. Gonna need to get some fall clothes, I don't have much that'll keep me warm.
On a non-pregnancy update...John has been building a compost bin...yay...excited about having that done. Our garden is looking great. We have figs and apples, lots of lemons, green, yellow and purple beans, carrots, radishes, tomatoes, basil, persimmons on the way, and beautiful sunflowers. Weather here is mild, 80s most days, with less fog in the mornings and evenings which is nice.
Here are some pictures of our trip to San Diego to see Dave Matthews Band with our friends Steph, Ferd, Angie and Dave. And some pictures of our garden. I also went on what might be my last hurrah of independence to Davis. I had a wonderful time, spend a week swimming in our old pool, catching up with friends and seeing family. It was HOT and that was less than desirable, but I loved doing all the things I miss in Davis. I thought I'd take a lot of pictures, but only ended up with two, oh well.
We had the day to do explore in San Diego, so we chose to go to the Natural History Museum and put on a puppet show for the kids...no not really. We did go to the museum though and saw the Body Works exhibit. Absolutely amazing...all real human bodies and body parts preserved in a way that does not use smelly chemicals. Each body was posed to shows different aspects of the human body. Really a fascinating exhibit, unfortunately there were no pictures in the exhibit.
I'm feeling pretty pregnant here, but it's hard to notice the belly when the boobs look this big!
The ladies
Dave Crashing the lady's party
Ernie, the day after his birthday making french toast, drinking a beer and sporting his birthday hat: "it's my birthday, let's get shit faced" With a happy face with shit around it's smile.
The Armstrongs on a walk. Luke walked Hurley, he was just the right size for a 2 year old. These boys are cuter everytime I see them!
Belly at 27 weeks
This was John's trip to Home Depot for lumber for our compost bin. I'm pretty sure he's the only one who rides his bike to Home Depot. He complains that there's no bike parking there....not too sure there's much of a demand for it.
Raised Beds
Purple beans (which I found out when cooked turn green )
Yellow beans
The ever productive cucumber vine....I am soooo over cucumbers, I haven't picked one in a while.
Strawberries, I eat them as they get ripe, usually it's only one or two at a time, but they are yummy!
Figs, it's a real trick to find the ripe ones before the birds do. But really I'm happy the birds are so happy to eat them, otherwise we'd have figs coming out of our ears!
Apples, almost ready
Lemons, lemons, lemons!
