Honeymoon

We waited until Dec. to go on our honeymoon and we're both happy we did it this way. We're feeling like honeymoon luxury was well deserved.

For our honeymoon, we stayed in Puerto Vallarta for 7 days. We stayed at a resort, so we weren't exactly immersed, but we took the buses everywhere, went to the southern beach of Boca de Tomatelan and the northern beach of Sayulita. We went ziplining under the forest canopy in the mountains past Xtapia, swam with dolphins and took a boat to a secluded beach without electricity for dinner for New Year's Eve (open bar, aye-yay-yay!). We also spent a few days sitting on the beach and ordered drinks in the sun. Our last treat was breakfast in bed, we liked that!

Thanks for all the honeymoon gifts...we had a magical time. Okay...now for the pictures.

First order of business...margarita on the beach!

Misbehaving at our first dinner

A little more civilized

Our second day we hopped on a bus south and spent the day on the beach at Boca de Tamatlan.

This picture doesn't quite capture the true ugliness of this poor dog. I have never witnessed a more unfortunate looking dog. It was hairless except a little tuft on her forehead. She had puppies somewhere because her utters were hanging. A part of me felt bad for this terribly ugly dog, but part of me was in true disbelief of the extent of this dog's ugliness. It actually left me a little speechless at the time.

The evening glow from our balcony

Malecon (NOT marecon)
This is the downtown boardwalk, it's a very romatic walk, although on this Saturday night at high tourist season, it was packed. None-the-less I love this beach side walk full of street performers, sculptures, and vendors.

Our nightly firworks show from the pirate ship

Watching the fireworks (and showing off my bling bling :)

The ride was about an hour north to Sayulita, a beach community outside of the Bay of Banderas, where we were in search of waves to surf. The waves ended up being choppy, irregular and on the big side, but I still enjoyed getting out there without a wetsuit with all the die hard (and scary) Mexican surfers. We don't have any pictures of the beach because we spent most of our time in the water.

The bus ride to Sayulita

Our first honeymoon 'treat' was a guided zipline tour of the canopy east of PV in the mountains just outside Xtapia. Wow, talk about adrenaline rush! Vallarta Adventures gave us a great time. They are an ecobusiness and educate about coexisting in our evnvironment (and of course preserving their money maker!) I highly recommend them, the only thing that's frustrating is they don't allow you to take cameras on many of their trips and then charge an arm and a leg for the pictures.

The jeep ride to the canopy was about an hour of hair tangling, dirt caking speed. Just the jeep ride was thrilling, you mean there's more?

We spent most of our time about 60 - 70 feet above the ground on platforms and ropes. Pretty killer.

Our group getting ready to hook up and zip off!

The twirly swing, they throw you off the platform in a twirl frenzy. You feel dizzy and a little hungover after, but totally worth it during the moment

Repelling to the ground
The longest line was big papa at about 270 meters. I could have gone a few more times, it was a real rush and the canopy offered it's beauty the whole way.

Stay tuned for part II...

I have to say, that ugly dog picture and commentary had me laughing pretty hard. Poor ugly dog.
